What is vadoma tribe?

The Vadoma tribe, also known as the Bantwana tribe or Ovahimba tribe, is an indigenous group of people living in the remote areas of northwest Zimbabwe. They are known for their unique physical characteristic of having only two toes on each foot, which is believed to be a genetic mutation known as ectrodactyly.

The Vadoma people live a traditional semi-nomadic lifestyle, relying on farming, herding, and hunting for their sustenance. They live in small, close-knit communities and place a strong emphasis on family and community bonds.

The Vadoma tribe practices animist beliefs, worshiping ancestral spirits and invoking the protection of the natural world. They also practice traditional healing and rituals, which play a significant role in their culture and daily life.

Due to their isolation and traditional way of life, the Vadoma tribe has faced challenges in preserving their customs and traditions in the face of modernization and encroachment by outside influences. Efforts are being made to document and preserve their unique way of life for future generations.
